North Edinburgh & East Lothian Under 14 grabbed a dramatic 9 run win over Pentlands in a 35 over match on a
slow wicket at Meggetland on Sunday 1st June. As the scores show the run rate in the two innings
were a distinct contrast.
Callum McLeod claimed three of the four N.E. & E.L. wickets which Pentlands claimed for 18 in the opening 5.1
overs. A fine stand of 43 in 9.3 overs for the fifth wicket by Ben Davidson and Richard Hughes gave the visitors a position on which to build but they were unable to push on.
Gregor McIntyre dismissed both members of the partnership and picked up two more wickets and mention must be made of two very good slip catches by Mikey Brown.
The Pentlands innings was interrupted by a fourteen minute rain shower after four overs and this further slowed

Close set fields and accurate bowling by Robert Edwards and Richard Tresidder restricted Pentlands' scoring rate but
they did not lose their fourth wicket until the score was 63 after 29.2 overs. From there a mixture of over ambitious shots and ill judged running hastened their end but perhaps the
master stroke was the introduction of seamer Michael Holmes as the seventh N.E. & E.L. bowler. He captured the vital fourth wicket with his second ball and added the
seventh and tenth wickets in his next two overs in which there were also two run outs. Between these overs, captain Callum Clarkson captured two wickets when he had two batsmen caught
at mid-wicket when attempting to flay his left arm spin.
